Warwickshire is one of 42 Probation Areas which together form the National Probation Service. The National Probation Service for England and Wales is a law enforcment agency which supervises offenders in the community.

The National Probation Service is part of the Government's Ministry of Justice. The Secretary of State, The Rt. Hon. Jack Straw, MP, heads this.

The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) was created in 2004, bringing the prison and probation services together, to ensure crime is reduced through offenders being managed effectively, from the beginning to the end of their sentences.

Warwickshire Probation Board oversees the work of Warwickshire Area and is answerable to the Secretary of State for Justice on performance matters.

The Chair of the Board is Robin Verso. The Chief Officer, Liz Stafford, is also a member of the Board.

We employ nearly 180 staff with more than 50% of staff work directly with offenders. This includes working in our hostels and prisons in the region.

Other staff work in supporting roles such as training, research, information technology, case administration, finance and human resources.

2007 is the National Probation Service’s centenary. Click here for more information.
