Warwickshire Probation Area to become a Probation Trust
23rd Sep, 2009 to 23rd Dec, 2009
Warwickshire Probation Area to become a Probation Trust
Warwickshire Probation has received formal notification from the Ministry of Justice that their application to become a Probation Trust has been successful. Warwickshire Probation will become a Probation Trust on 1st April 2010.
The Chief Officer Liz Stafford said:
"The application process has been challenging and we can take pride that Warwickshire has passed the test. The test includes close scrutiny of organisational capability, financial viability, and performance and how we will deliver services to the people of Warwickshire.
"The pioneering and unique approach to 'joined up justice' in Warwickshire was a key feature in our application. The Warwickshire Justice Centres and our close partnership working in Warwickshire enable all the relevant criminal justice agencies and community safety partners to work together to protect people from harm."
Robin Verso Chair of the Warwickshire Probation Trust said:
"A Probation Trust will be a public enterprise, operating through a contract with the Ministry of Justice to deliver efficient and effective probation services in Warwickshire. Over time the Trust will have greater freedoms and flexibilities and will be able to use these to develop better ways of reducing re-offending and protecting the public. Close collaboration with the police, the courts, local councils, the health service and many other organisations will continue to be essential for the Probation Trust to manage offenders successfully outside prison."
